New Case – Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 near Chirk, Wrexham, Wales Press Release – Avian Influenza identified in poultry and wild birds in Wrexham County Borough The Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales has confirmed a case of H5N1 Avian Influenza in a small flock of backyard chickens at a premises near Chirk, Wrexham, Wales. Further testing has now confirmed this as a highly pathogenic strain. Disease control zones put in place surrounding the premises overlap the Welsh-English border hence declarations have been made by Welsh Government and Defra for the relevant areas in Wales and England respectively. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have been put in place in the relevant areas of Wales and England. In addition to a 10km Restricted Zone in the relevant area of Wales. Keepers must keep a close watch on their birds for any signs of disease, and seek prompt advice from a vet if they have any concerns.
